Terminus Board Game Review
Terminus is a 1-5 player game where you choose actions along a rondel circuit that will help you collect resources, develop the city, lay subway lines, build stations and lobby for agendas and projects. Every player will have their own player board where they will track their capacity, store their resources (which are used to pay for most of the actions), and place their upgrade tiles. The main board is where subway lines and stations will be built along with the action circuit. Terminus is played over three years with each year consisting of three loops around the action circuit. There are six zones along the circuit with 2-3 options of actions a player can take at each zone. Players will move along the action circuit in clockwise order choosing a zone to stop in and taking one action or skipping however many zones they wish and taking an action, but once you pass a stop you cannot go backward. The first person to complete three rounds of the circuit or pass will become the first player in the next year. At the beginning of each year there is an income phase where everyone will gain money based on the # of stations they had built and choose a bonus from the bonus track (which is some combination of resources). The action stops on the circuit are:
DEVELOP-puting development tiles on the board near one of your adjacent stations, move lobbyists or take demand tokens
LOBBY-move lobbyist or pay to get an agenda or claim a project which will be endgame prestige scoring,
IMPROVE-claim upgrade tokens or pay for blueprints,
MARKET-pay for permits or power
SUPPLY-collect construction, pay for rails, or increase your capacity which is important because if your capacity is not raised then you will not be able to build stations
BUILD-paying to lay subway rails and put out stations or hubs.
Terminus continues as players are placing development tiles, building rails and stations to maximize points and claiming agendas and lobbying for projects. The person who has the most prestige at the end of the game is the winner of Terminus! Now let’s head back to the studio to hear which peg developed the most hubs and stations.
