- A deep dive The Mandalorian: Adventures Review
The Mandalorian: Adventures Board Game
You’ll be taking on missions inspired by The Mandalorian series — think epic battles, stealth, and a good dose of strategy. In The Mandalorian: Adventures, you can play solo by controlling two characters, try Sandbox Mode to pick any characters and create custom missions, or ramp up the challenge with different difficulty levels — from Novice to Veteran — adjusting health and card limits to suit your skill. As you complete missions, the Guide Deck introduces new challenges and story twists, and occasionally you’ll be instructed to open hidden envelopes containing secret components or rule changes, adding surprises like new characters, hidden objectives, to keep each game fresh and unpredictable.
Each session of The Mandalorian: Adventures kicks off with a card from the Guide Deck, which tells you what mission you’re on and any twists or new rules you’ll face. Then, you set up your map (which is a book), place threat tokens (which can be good or bad), and pick your characters. Each character has a unique skill deck with cards that provide different strengths and actions, and some cards even have special abilities, adding extra effects when used in specific ways — like bonus movement, extra damage, or tactical advantages that can make or break your mission.
Every turn in The Mandalorian: Adventures has two main phases: Action and Event. First, let’s break down the Action Step — this is where you make all your moves. Each turn, you play skill cards for actions, and you can choose from four main types:
- Move: Play a Move card, and you can travel across the map, covering a number of spaces up to the card’s strength.
- Attack: you target an enemy within range, dealing damage equal to the card’s strength.
- Intel: You can look at a facedown threat token within range to see if it’s an enemy or something useful. Or, if there’s an enemy close by, you can use Intel to nudge them one space away.
- Plan: lets you draw cards from a special planning deck. You can save one card for future use, adding powerful options for future turns. Like block, extra turn, etc.
Each turn, you can only do two actions, and you can’t use the same one twice in a turn. So there’s some strategy here — balancing movement, combat, recon, and planning to get the best outcome.
Next, you hit the Event Step. An event triggers during the Event Step if any action slot has a total strength of 5 or more, bringing challenges like enemy reinforcements or attacks; meanwhile, a crisis triggers if an action slot reaches 6 or more strength, escalating the situation with mission-specific threats or obstacles. To determine the total strength in each action slot, you add up the strength values from the skill cards played there, along with any disrupt tokens, which boost the strength further and can tip the scale into triggering events or crises.
After that, you’ll draw new skill cards to refill your hand and prepare for the next round.
Winning in The Mandalorian: Adventures is simple: complete the mission objective. But if any characters are defeated or a critical mission step fails, game over.
