Episode 267: The Castles of Burgundy – Special Edition

The expansions in a very rules gisty way.

Expansions 1-7 are just adding new tiles and boards that just add/tweek the existing rules to add more variability.

Expansion 8 is the Trade Routes. Depending on the amount of players you get X amount of these tile laid down at random. This builds a track. Instead of just sitting the goods you sell aside, they are now placed on this track. If they match the pip value on the track you get some bonus action.

Expansion 9 add a team variant.

Expansion 10 a solo variant.

The Shields expansion add a way to use doubles if you should roll them. If you roll doubles, you may instead take a shield on the depot. These shields are place on one of your castle tiles. These give you points at the end of the game and some kind of lasting powerful ability. At the end of each phase before getting your coin for your mines and have to pay a coin for each of your shields.

The Vineyard expansion add another side board to your player area. This expansion introduces 2 hex vineyard tiles. Each hex as a color grape. There is a market where you can spend coin to purchase a tile or use your dice to select one. These tiles go into and play out of your storage area like normal tiles. You play them on your side board and get two actions depending what you cover up. Complete a role, unlocks end game scoring tie to contiguous area of grapes of the same color.

The Chateauma adds a virtual opponent that simulates an additional player that can be added in solo, 2, or 3 player games.
