Episode 263: Wyrmspan

Wrymspan is a 1-5 player game where you take on the roles of amateur dracologists in the world of Wyrmspan , a place where all types of dragons are everywhere. Each player’s board has three caves that the dragons you collect will reside.  The game plays over 4 rounds, each round the players take turns until everyone passes.  On your turn, you take three actions, excavate, entice, or explore.  When you excavate you are playing a cave card in one of caves.  This will cost you a coin and the deeper you go it will also cost you eggs.  Playing a cave card will earn you resources and/or more cards, but more importantly it will give you a place to put a dragon! When you entice, you are paying a coin and resources listed on the card to place a dragon on a cave card in a cave. Once you do that, it can give you an ongoing ability, resources, or end round or end game scoring.  Finally when you explore, it cost (the first time) a coin.  You walk your adventurer through your cave and activate any “if activated” abilities on your path.  Some are already listed in the cave while others could be on dragons in the cave. If you wanted to explore the same cave in the same round it cost you a coin and an egg. A third time, a coin and two eggs.  As you probably can tell everything costs a coin to do, once you run out of coins, you run out of actions and need to pass.  There is also a dragon guild in the game. When triggering this action you get to move one space around a circular track.  Each step gets you a resource, coin, or a card.  At the very bottom and very top of the track, there are some sweet first come first serve actions, resources, or end game scoring denoted by spaces where you can put your player cube. Getting there early offers up more options.   At the end of each round of Wyrmspan, the round objectives awards points.  At the end of the 4th round, more points are awarded for left over resources, tucked cards, and eggs.
