Kutna Hora Board Game
At the start of each game of Kutna Hora: The City of Silver, each player chooses three guilds which they will represent throughout the game. Each guild will manipulate a different part of the market and players can only build buildings of the guild that they chose at the start of the game.
Kutna Horab> is played in 5 or 6 rounds and in each round each player will get three turns by playing cards out of their hand and deciding which action to take. These actions allow you to do a plethora of things and also either increase your production of the associated good, manipulate the market, or increase taxes.
On your turn you play two cards and execute the action on those cards, what are these actions: You can mine which will allow you to take mine tile and place it in the mine, pay the placement price, resolve what’s on the tile and place one of your miners on that tile to contribute to end game majority scoring.
You can take the rights action which allows you to purchase a building from the town hall of a guild you own OR a public building by paying the appropriate cost depending on which column that building is located, once a building is chosen you slide the tiles down so that the next one becomes cheaper.
You can claim a plot - you will spend the appropriate goshen and place one of your plot claim tokens on the village board so that later when you do the build action you will have a place to build that building.
On the build action you take a building that you’ve already gained and place it in the village where you have a plot marker and paying the appropriate cost, resolving what is on the tile and placing one of your village tokens on that tile, unlocking village tokens gives you an additional bonus. Deciding where to build your buildings matter for end game scoring as you will get points for each adjacent tile that has a similar icon.
If you play the income action card, you multiply your production values with the market price and gain that amount of gochen.
There is the St. Barbaras action which allows you to help build a section of the st.barbara’s cathedral. In order to take the St. Barbara’s action you need to have a pelican token which you can gain in other ways. You spend your pelican token and resolve the next available st.barbara’s tile and then flip it over so it’s unavailable to the other players.
The final action depicted on the cards is a JOKER - this is essentially a wild card and can be played for any of the other actions by losing a reputation OR nothing if your reputation is higher than 6.
Players do this until everyone takes a total of 5 turns. Then at the end of the round everyone pays taxes or loses the amount of reputation indicated for that round. If players have more than one plot marker in the village they may have to pay additional taxes and Depending on player count after a certain number of rounds Patrichian scoring comes into play if any patrichians were placed onto the town council.
At the end each game of Kunta Hora, you will score the buildings in the village, score the mines, calculate end game income, points from gained reputation and some remaining items on your board.
